Companies are being invited to bid for a contract worth £24m to run Harborough’s leisure centres for the next 15 years.

The District Council has launched a procurement exercise, with firms asked to tender for the contract by April.

Once awarded next year it will pave the way for improvements at Harborough Leisure Centre worth around £8.5m and upgrades at Lutterworth Sports Centre totalling £1m.

The successful company will also work with the council to facilitate sport and physical activity outside of the centres.

Cllr Simon Whelband, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing said: “As part of our Physical Activity Strategy, we identified a mutual aspiration to refurbish the two leisure centres to meet the high national standards.

“We’re aiming to contribute towards a reduction in carbon emissions, whilst increasing physical activity opportunities and participation to support the physical and mental health and well-being of residents across the Harborough district.”
