Highway Bosses Defend Decision To Allow Simultaneous Roadworks On A6 In Kibworth

Highways bosses have defended their decision to allow two sets of roadworks to take place at the same time on the A6 in Kibworth.
Drivers faced lengthy queues, with temporary traffic lights at both locations.
Severn Trent Water have now completed their works at the Wistow Road junction, although National Grid continue to work near the entrance to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “We looked very carefully at the applications to schedule the various roadwork schemes on and around the A6 route and carried out thorough assessment of each of them.
“The planned roadworks were all deemed far enough apart to be allowed to go ahead at the same time without causing a major issue on the road network, with traffic flows being managed through each of them to minimise the disruption to motorists.
“Staggering these works would have resulted in a longer period of roadworks and traffic management schemes, which would prolong the impact on the flow of traffic and mean that disruption would last for a longer period of time.
“Works are being carried out as part of maintenance and improvement of assets linked to the provision of essential services. The works undertaken on A6 Leicester Road roundabout junction with Wistow Road in Kibworth Harcourt were carried out by Severn Trent to install a water hydrant and carry out a chamber rebuild, and have now been completed.
“The works on the A6 Harborough Road in Kibworth Beauchamp are being carried out by National Grid as part of development of the Recycling and Household Waste Site and associated services.”
