Concern Over Planned Cuts To Streetlighting

Cuts to streetlighting are being proposed as part of plans by Leicestershire County Council to save £4m.
The operation times of some lights will be reduced and others dimmed to lower lighting levels, if the move goes ahead.
Many lights are already switched off overnight and Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of the opposition at Harborough District Council, told HFM it is vital the public are asked what they think, as there will be concerns over safety:

Reducing the amount of money spent on streetlighting is one of a number of proposed cuts to save the county council money.
Its budget proposals show the reduced operation times and lower lighting standards would save over £1.7m over four years.
