Water Leak Causes Flooding On Northampton Road

A water leak is causing flooding on Northampton Road in Market Harborough.

The burst pipe at the Caxton Street junction worsened over the weekend, with sandbags put down to protect some properties and water flowing down the road to the Bath Street junction.

Water can be seen rising out of the pavement and one side of the carriageway has been closed because of the flood, with temporary traffic lights in place and the pavement cannot be used.

There is also no access for traffic to Caxton Street from Northampton Road.

Severn Trent Water say repairs to the burst pipe will take place this evening and overnight and have been scheduled this way to minimise disruption to customers, as water supplies to homes and businesses in the area will be temporarily switched off overnight to allow the work to take place.

A spokesperson told HFM: “We are aware of a burst on Northampton Road in Market Harborough. Following an inspection at the weekend, the team is due to attend the site to make the repair this evening.

“To ensure the safety of teams delivering the repair and other road users, traffic management measures will be in place for the duration of the works. We understand that road works can be frustrating and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Customers who will temporarily lose their supplies will be contacted by Severn Trent.
