Written by HFM News on 24th November 2022
Leicestershire Police have launched their winter drink and drug drive campaign today.
It is starting earlier than normal because of the World Cup, with drivers warned not to be tempted to get behind the wheel after drinking while watching games.
There was a hard-hitting launch to the campaign, with a coffin put on display at St George’s Retail Park in Leicester.

149 people were arrested for driving under the influence on the county’s roads during December last year, compared with 132 the year before.
Sergeant Steve Lewin from Leicestershire Police’s Roads Policing Unit spoke to HFM’s Nick Shaw about the campaign:

If you see someone who appears to be a drink or drug driver enter a vehicle to drive away, make a note of the registration plate and the direction of travel and call your local police on 101 or 999 if there is an immeadiate danger.
Or report anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Northamptonshire force is also running a similar campaign and like previous years, will be releasing the names of those charged.
