Model Railway Exhibition To Steam Into Harborough Market

Written by on 12th October 2022

Model railway enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend as a two-day exhibition will be taking place at Harborough Market.

‘Railex’ will feature various layouts, including from local model clubs, and a children’s colouring competition.

It is being organised by the market and the Finishing Touches Model, based there.

The exhibition will feature an O Gauge freelance layout based on a fictional branch line situated somewhere along the Welland Valley.

Ian Stewart, who runs Finishing Touches, and the Kits and Bits stall, said: “We would like to welcome everyone to our first model railway exhibition.

“All the layouts have working models set in lovely scenic details and fun for all ages, including families and the experienced modeller.

“We hope to see lots of people enjoying the models and spending time at the market enjoying a cup of tea and cake while they are here.”

South Wigston Model Railway Club will be displaying a 00 gauge layout of old and present day life of the London Midland Region along with a N gauge layout called Roofers Lane which shows what can be achieved in a small space.

The exhibition will feature an O Gauge freelance layout based on a fictional branch line situated somewhere along the Welland Valley.

Other layouts include a 2mm Finescale of the town of Lambourne in Berkshire and Welland Mills, a fictitious branch line in the Welland Valley, on 0 gauge. All layouts will be operational and entrance to the event is free. Ian and Sue Stewart from Finishing touches will be on hand to provide advice on anything model related.

There is also a children’s colouring competition to win a £10 voucher to spend at Finishing Touches or market stall Kits and Bits – pick up an entry form from the market or colour in while you visit. Closing date for entries is Sunday 23 October 2022.

Railex will take place at the indoor market, in Northampton Road, Market Harborough, on Saturday 15 October, 9am to 4pm and Sunday 16 October 2022 from 10am to 3pm.
