Residents Demand Action To Deal With ‘Plague’ Of Maggots & Flies

Residents at a block of flats in Market Harborough are demanding urgent action to deal with what they describe as a ‘plague’ of maggots and flies.

They say it is a serious health hazard, with one resident at Huntingdon Gardens having to kill dozens of flies inside his flat, since the problem started a week ago.

Communal carpets have been covered and thousands of maggots have been seen in an interior bin cupboard, where the problem is coming from.

Platform Housing Group, who own the block, have apologised, and have pledged to deal with the issue.

Nikki Knight, Head of Specialist Housing told HFM: “We are sorry for our customers concerns at Huntingdon Gardens; we have visited the bin area and the floor area has had a deep clean.  The bins are scheduled to have a deep clean within the next week.”

Residents, who have also contacted Harborough District Council, say they have been informed the clean-up will place tomorrow.

The Council says its Environmental Health team will monitor the situation.
