Lutterworth Set To Get ‘Banking Hub’

Written by on 6th September 2022

Lutterworth is set to get a ‘banking hub’ as residents prepare to lose their last bank branch.

The town has been named as one of 12 locations nationwide for such a facility, which operates in a similar way to bank branches, but with shared services.

Customers of any bank can access their accounts, deposit cash and cheques, and withdraw money at any time, with more in-depth enquiries dealt with by trained specialists from different banks, who visit on different days.

The hubs, operated by Post Office, are located in communities with limited access to cash or banking facilities nearby and there are already 12 operating in the country.

Lutterworth’s last remaining bank – Lloyds – is closing at the end of next month.

South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has welcomed the plan, having previously criticised both Lloyds and Nationwide for announcing the closure of their branches in Lutterworth and Blaby, with the MP citing a lack of services for his constituents living in rural areas and villages.

Mr Costa said, “I am delighted to hear of the plans for a new shared banking hub in Lutterworth alongside a number of other locations across the country.

“I shared my constituents’ very serious concerns about the recent raft of bank closures we have seen locally, especially in Lutterworth and Blaby where the last branches have now announced their intentions to close later this year.

“It is imperative that my constituents have good, reasonable access to important services such as banking, so this is really positive news for people in South Leicestershire”.

It has not yet been announced where the new Banking Hub will be located or when it will open.
