Police Seize Vehicles As Investigation Into Cable Thefts Continues
Written by HFM News on 31st August 2022
Police have seized vehicles and recovered telecommunication cables believed to have been stolen during a spate of thefts across the HFM region this month.
A van stolen from Theddingworth was one of the vehicles recovered from the undisclosed location in Northamptonshire, where the cable was also found, although no arrests have been made.
Officers from Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Police have launched a joint operation to target the thieves, who have struck across both counties, including Mowsley, Clipston and Arthingworth.
Hundreds of metres of underground cable has been stolen, leaving residents without phone lines or broadband connections until repairs were made by Openreach.

Sergeant Paul Archer, from Leicestershire’s rural policing team, said: “In recent weeks we’ve been running an operation alongside colleagues from Northamptonshire Police to tackle the theft of cables.
“While the majority of incidents reported to us have taken place on the eastern side of the county – and in Rutland – we have received reports of cables being taken in the Harborough district.
“As a result of our operation, cables and vehicles which we believe have been used in the thefts were recovered in Northamptonshire.
“This included a vehicle which had been stolen from Theddingworth on 12 August.”
“I would ask anyone who has information about such incidents, or notices anyone acting in a manner that seems unusual or suspicious to contact police as we can work together to tackle such crimes.”
