Journalists at the Leicester Mercury are striking today in a row over pay.

Members of the National Union of Journalists have walked out, after rejecting a 3% pay offer.

They are among over 1,000 journalists nationwide taking action at newspapers and ‘Live’ websites owned by Reach.

The NUJ say reporters, content editors and sub-editors at the Leicester Mercury and LeicestershireLive website are striking, together with some journalists from sister website NorthantsLive.

Members will be supporting picket lines via a meet-up in Leicester city centre today, as the newspaper’s office was closed permanently last year.

Industrial action was postponed last week, but bank holiday negotiations ended without agreement and further action is planned for next month.
