A burglar has been jailed for over two years after driving a car at a Police officer while fleeing the scene of an attempted break-in at a shop in Husbands Bosworth.
The vehicle being driven by Thomas Brackenridge clipped the female PC, leaving her with cuts, bruising and whiplash.
Officers had been called to the Springfield Store on High Street in the early hours of February 7th 2020, after neighbours reported two men attacking the shutters with crowbars.
Leicester Crown Court heard the men fled on two occasions, but returned twice because the police had not arrived and continued trying to break into the store.
When the police got to the scene they fled a third time and got into a car, reversing down nearby Bell Lane until police cars boxed them in.
Brackenridge’s accomplice, who has not been found, got out of the Renault Megane brandishing a crowbar and the officer, standing to the side of her vehicle, pointed a taser at the man and ordered him to give up.
Instead he leapt back in the vehicle and Brackenridge sped towards the officer, veering away at the last minute but catching her and causing her injuries.
Her bodycam footage was played in Court, showing her being knocked to the ground and crying in pain.
The night before Brackenridge, 40, of Fairfield Street, Wigston, was involved in a failed attempt to burgle the Boots store in St Mary’s Place, Market Harborough, but fled empty handed when the intruder alarm was activated.
He was jailed for 29 months after admitting assault occasioning actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and two attempted burglaries.
