Scheme to encourage more tree planting

Written by on 17th August 2022

A popular scheme offering free trees and hedgerow shrubs to Harborough’s landowners and farmers to encourage more tree planting has returned.Leicestershire County Council has once again teamed up with The Woodland Trust to offer the free tree and hedgerow packs – which are designed to help renew and restore existing woodland and vegetation, as well as replace trees which have been affected by diseases, such as Ash dieback. It’s another way of adding to ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ in the Harborough District – with each tree pack including 45 native trees – whilst the hedgerow packs are made up of 250 hedgerow shrubs. For larger areas of land, the scheme can also help, advise and support the creation of new areas of woodland planting over half a hectare via the “More Woods” scheme. The County Council’s tree packs are being made available to anyone who lives in Leicestershire with suitable areas of land to plant – including community groups, parish councils and schools, as well as landowners and farmers. If you’re eligible you should apply now – with successful applicants then able to collect their trees and hedgerow packs from November.
