New Toilets Finally Open At Market Harborough Railway Station
Written by HFM News on 22nd July 2022
New toilets have finally opened today at Market Harborough Railway Station.
They are located within a new waiting room on the northbound platform.
The project, which has cost £1.25m, has been hit with several delays and problems, with the final set-back coming last month, when it emerged the cubicles were too small and had to be altered.
Passengers have had to use temporary toilets outside the front of the station for over three years.
Cllr Phil Knowles has been campaigning for the facilities and was given a tour when they opened afternoon:

The toilets, which include baby changing facilities. and nine-seat waiting room, complete with a water fountain, are the latest in a series of improvements at the station over the last few years
Harborough MP Neil O’Brien, who has also been campaigning for the facilities to be completed, has welcomed today’s opening and told HFM he will continue to push for further improvements at the station:

Network Rail say the project faced challenges from contractor and design changes as well as the pandemic.
Gary Walsh, East Midlands Route Director for Network Rail said: “This day has been eagerly awaited by passengers who use Market Harborough station and I want to thank them for their patience. I’m delighted to see that the new facilities are now open.
“We’re committed to delivering better journeys, stations and experiences for our passengers. This work brings together the package of improvements we’ve implemented at Market Harborough in recent years to truly transform train travel in the town.”
