Campaigner Meets Rail Officials After Toilets Blunder

A Market Harborough campaigner has met rail bosses after a blunder further delayed the opening of new toilets at Market Harborough station.
Cubicles inside the building are too small, meaning the facilities, which were due to open to passengers today, won’t be available for several more weeks.

Cllr Phil Knowles met Network Rail officials at the station to demand answers and told HFM: “ I have received numerous apologies, but as I’ve said, the community doesn’t want yet more apologies we want this sorting.
“The latest delays are linked to problems with the toilet cubicles, seemingly they are too small.
“I have asked the questions as to we’re they ordered incorrectly or supplied incorrectly?
“Have they been wrongly specified and importantly why this was only discovered 72 hours before the opening should have taken place?
“I’ve been promised a definite opening date by tomorrow (Friday)at 1700 and weekly updates until the doors open.
“By then I hope the internal investigation as to what went wrong will also give up the answers so lessons can be learned and this doesn’t happen again. I have also been promised that the section for persons with disabilities is to be double checked and to be sure that is fully up to spec.”
Network Rail has apologised as it works to rectify the issue in the building, which will also house a new waiting room.
Passengers have been using temporary toilets at the front of the station for the past three years.
