Public Inquiry Into ‘Super Prison’ To Take Place In October

Written by on 27th June 2022

A public inquiry to decide if a massive new prison can be built on the outskirts of Market Harborough will take place in October.

The announcement comes after the Ministry of Justice appealed Harborough District Council’s decision to refuse permission for the ‘Super jail’ being built on land near Gartree prison.

The five-day hearing will be chaired by an independent inspector and hear evidence from campaigners who fought hard against the plan, the council and the MoJ.

The scheme for the 1700-inmate jail was unanimously rejected by councillors in April because of the affect it would have on the countryside.

The public inquiry will be held at the District Council offices at the Symington Building, from Tuesday October 4th.

The Planning Inspectorate is asking that all representations must be received five weeks from the appeal start date (22 June 2022) and must quote the appeal reference.

New representations should be sent directly to The Planning Inspectorate at Room 3/26, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN or online at https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk quoting appeal reference APP/F2415/W/22/3300227
