Plan For New Accommodation For The Homeless To Move Forward

The plan to create new temporary accommodation for the homeless in Market Harborough is set to move forward soon.

The District Council wants to build the facility in the town centre and an open evening is now being planned, so residents and businesses can find out more.

The authority wants to demolish a disused property on Roman Way to make-way for the new building, which would have eight en-suite rooms and other facilities.

There has been a significant increase in people declaring themselves homeless across Harborough, a situation mirrored nationwide, and the council says the new facility would mean less reliance on expensive private temporary accommodation, significantly reduce its costs.

Some near-by businesses expressed concern about the plan when it was first announced.

The council wants to share full details of the proposal before submitting a planning application and will announce the date of the open evening at the Symington Building in due course.
