Harborough’s Firefighters Fall Silent On Firefighters’ Memorial Day

Firefighters across the Hfm Region have honoured colleagues who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

A minute’s silence was held at midday on forecourts of fire stations to mark Firefighters’ Memorial Day, including the Market Harborough base on Fairfield Road.

The National Fire Brigades Union say nationally, more than 2,300 firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Firefighters’ Memorial Day falls on 4 May every year, and FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said: “This a huge moment of unity for us all as we come together to remember the courage and sacrifice of fallen firefighters.

“We must make sure the firefighters who died protecting their communities are remembered and honoured.

“We are proud to commemorate those have who come before us and to recognise their sacrifice and their contribution to the safety of people in our communities.”
