‘Minimise Travel’ Say Police, As Storm Eunice Hits Hfm Region
Written by HFM News on 18th February 2022
Police are urging people to minimise travel where possible as Storm Eunice hits the Hfm region.
Winds of up to 70mph are forecast and an Amber Weather Warning is in force, meaning there is the risk of flying debris, damage to buildings and trees being uprooted.
East Midlands Railway is urging people to avoid travelling from Market Harborough today.
A reduced timetable is in operation, as trains will have to travel much slower than usual because of high winds.
The company is also warning of further disruption if trees and debris get blown onto the tracks.
Leicestershire County Council says its highway crews will be available 24/7 to deal with fallen trees on roads.
Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Our forestry and emergency response teams will be available to make roads and footpaths safe if trees or branches fall due to strong winds.
“We will constantly monitor the weather situation and resources will be available if needed. However, along with other agencies, we would also urge people to consider only making journeys, if essential.”
