Wingates Gallery Takes On New Staff As Demand Soars

A Market Harborough gallery has taken on two new full-time members of staff as demand for artwork soars.

Wingates Gallery has brought in the new recruits Sarah-May Johnson and Sally Tomkins, who join gallery owners Andrew and Kathryn Cartwright.

They will both split their time between the gallery in St Mary’s Road, Market Harborough and the company’s other outlet in Leicester.

Sally, whose background is in design and product placement, said: “With Wingates Gallery it is all about the artist and the original work and how beautiful the art is.

“It’s that whole package that is so appealing to me.”

Sarah-May, who is a woven textile artist, said: “It is great to be able to work for a gallery which values the work of artists and the relationship they have with them.

“The galleries have a range of original art on display from paintings to ceramics to sculpture and that appeals to many different tastes.”

Andrew and Kathryn bought the Market Harborough gallery in 2017 and opened the Leicester gallery towards the end of 2019.

Andrew said: “We pride ourselves on the quality of customer service that we provide at Wingates Gallery and our two new employees will help us maintain our high standards.

“Our aim is to offer original, affordable art.  We are not aware of another independent gallery in the country which carries as high a proportion of original work as Wingates Gallery. We think this ethos is resonating with a wider audience as more and more people get in touch to buy art from our galleries.”
