Written by on 17th December 2021

A milestone has been reached in the construction of a new electricity substation near Desborough which will play a key role in the electrification of the railway.

Two large transformers have been installed on the site adjacent to the A6, after construction work began earlier this year.

Luke Sewell, project engineer at National Grid, spoke to Hfm:

Electricity from the substation will eventually be distributed up and down the railway line via a track side feeder station to electric trains running between London St Pancras and Market Harborough.

Work is due to be completed by next winter.
