A Police officer shot in the face while protecting an elderly couple in Desborough has won a national bravery award.
Sergeant Dave Cayton was hit by several ball bearings while tackling a man at a house in Neuville Way last November and despite intense pain was able to arrest him.
The weapon repeatedly discharged at the officer was a high-powered ball bearing pistol and Sgt Cayton was taken to hospital where he underwent medical procedures to remove a number of ball bearings from his face and head.
Marshall Coe, 40, formally of Neuville Way, was later jailed for 11 years for wounding with intent and being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Sgt Cayton won the bravery award for the eastern region of England at the Police Federation Bravery Awards ceremony last night.
