Harborough MP Speaks Out About ‘Christmas Party’ Row
Written by HFM News on 9th December 2021
Harborough MP Neil O’Brien says there must be consequences if government officials broke Coronavirus rules by having a party in Downing Street last Christmas.
Boris Johnson issued an apology yesterday and launched an investigation, but said he’d been assured no gathering took place against the rules.
Conservative Mr O’Brien told Hfm: “I’m glad to see the Cabinet Secretary is now investigating whether officials broke the rules.
“I and many constituents will be furious if it turns out the rules have been flouted by senior civil servants, and if that turns out to be the case there must be consequences.
“Many people in Harborough were not able to see loved ones and friends and crucial times last year and will be rightly furious if it turns out high up officials have not played by the rules.
“I hope the cabinet secretary gets to the bottom of this very quickly.”
