Controversial Redevelopment Of Elderly People’s Housing Scheme Moves Closer

Written by on 22nd November 2021

A deal to pave the way for the controversial redevelopment of an elderly people’s housing scheme in Market Harborough is set to be completed within the next few weeks.

Harborough District Council is selling the land it owns at Naseby Square to housing association Platform Housing Group, who will build 38 new affordable homes on the site, off Stuart Road.

13 bungalows will be demolished as part of the redevelopment – the occupants of which have already been re-housed.

The green light for the redevelopment was given the go-ahead earlier this year, despite major opposition to the plan, including petitions signed by over 800 people.

Harborough District Council say the sale of the land is expected to be completed ‘over the next few weeks.’

A spokesperson for Platform Housing Group told Hfm: “We are working with all relevant parties to progress the much needed development of new homes at Naseby Square.

“We will continue to keep our residents and the wider community updated on the progress as soon as we are in a position to do so.”

Bungalows will be demolished when the redevelopment project begins
