A maroon will be fired in Market Harborough’s Memorial Gardens at 11am to mark the start and end of a two minutes silence for Armistice Day.
The town’s Royal British Legion has had to scale back its usual tributes because of the pandemic, but will hold a small ceremony by the entrance to the gardens on The Square, where wreaths will be placed on the gates.
People are being encouraged to honour the armed forces community on the anniversary of the agreement to end fighting in the First World War, with the nation falling silent to mark the moment peace was declared in 1918.
Chairman of Market Harborough’s Royal British Legion, Stewart Harrison, says it is important people pause to remember:

The Church Square entrance to The Symington Building in Market Harborough will be open to between 10:40am and 11:15am, to enable people to view the ‘Roll of Honour’.
The memorial was placed in the building when it was owned by R & W H Symington & Co. Ltd.
Harborough District Council is encouraging visitors to wear a face covering in the building & a hand sanitising station is available.
