Flytipper Fined After Caught Red-Handed

A man caught red-handed dumping rubbish on a country lane has been fined £400 by Harborough District Council.

He was filmed on covert CCTV fly-tipping furniture and other household items, including a suitcase, on London Road in Great Glen earlier this month.

The man in his 30s from Leicester was tracked down by the council’s Enviro-Crime team after he borrowed a van to transport the items.

It’s the fifth flytipping fine to be issued in the past six months as part of the on-going Tip Off campaign, which has resulted in a significant reduction in fly-tipping in the district over the past two-years, bucking the national trend.

Cllr Jonathan Bateman, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet lead for environmental services, said: “This is another great result from our officers and sends a clear message that fly-tipping will not be tolerated in our district, and that we will do all we can to catch those responsible for blighting our countryside.”
