Written by on 6th October 2021

Crime has fallen by 14% across Harborough in the past year with 691 less crimes reported to Police.

The biggest drops were in burglary, vehicle crime and shoplifting – all down by around 50% on the previous year, with periods of lock-down likely to have contributed to the falls.

Violence with injury increased by 26% to 494 incidents and public order, drugs offences, hate crimes and reports of anti-social behaviour were also up.

Overall, a total of 4,203 crimes were recorded across Harborough in the year to April, with Police responding to just under 20,000 incidents in the district:

Inspector Jim Purdie, the area neighbourhood policing commander, spoke to Hfm:

The increase in some reports of anti-social behaviour is also being linked the pandemic, although they have fallen by 22% since April, with 62 less incidents than in same period last year.
