A 16-year-old boy who stabbed another teenager in the arm during an attempted robbery in Kibworth has been handed a Youth Rehabilitation Order.

He attacked the 18-year-old on the bridge known as ‘Tin Bridge,’ off Warwick Park, on the afternoon of February 6th, when the victim refused his demands to handover money.

The boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was sentenced at at Leicester Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to attempted robbery, possession of a knife and grievous bodily harm with intent.

The sentencing order includes intensive supervision and surveillance, a curfew and electronic tagging for three months.

Detective Constable Alex Horwood, who was the investigating officer, said: “The defendant and victim had known each other for a number of years but that made no difference to the defendant’s intentions to rob and harm the victim.

“The defendant chose to carry a knife and had no qualms in using it.  The victim, luckily, sustained minor injuries with no lasting damage.

“We take knife crime extremely seriously and work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service and courts to bring people to justice.

“Our Lives not Knives campaign is aimed at deterring people from carrying knives and educate them about the dangers of doing so. As part of the campaign we want to share the message that ‘You matter, lives can change’.”
