Big Weekend Re-Organised For 2022 After Cancellation This Year

Written by on 16th August 2021

A big music festival which had to cancelled will take place at Market Harborough showground next year.

Leicester’s One Big Weekend should have been held over the past weekend, but issues linked to the pandemic forced organisers, Sue Young Cancer Support, to cancel it.

They say most people who bought tickets for this year’s event and requested refunds have now received them, although are awaiting bank details from a small number of people and others who paid through PayPal.

Others have held onto their tickets, ahead of the new dates of August 13th and 14th 2022.

The festival was due to welcome around 23,000 people, but after consultation with Public Health officials in June – before restrictions started to lift –  that number was cut to around 4,000, including staff working on site.

The event was due to be the charity’s major fundraising event of the year, and limiting numbers meant that it could not run at a profit.

Sarah Staples, Media Officer for organisers, Sue Young Cancer Support, said: “Postponing Leicester’s One Big Weekend was an extremely tough decision. We’re delighted to have a new date, when hopefully restrictions will have lifted further and we can hold it safely with the maximum number of festival-goers joining us.

“We’ll be working hard over the next 12 months to make sure it’s bigger and even better!”

The line-up for next year’s event is still to be confirmed.
