Free Parking On Streets In Market Harborough Town Centre To Increase From 40 Minutes To One Hour
Written by HFM News on 5th August 2021
The length of time people can park for free on streets in Market Harborough town centre is being increased from 40 minutes to one hour.
Drivers will get an extra 20 minutes on High Street, Abbey Street, Church Square, Bowden Lane and Coventry Road, when the change comes into effect later this month.
It follows a review of on-street parking by Leicestershire County Council.
The cost to park in car parks owned by Harborough District Council increased earlier this year.
Market Harborough Chamber of Trade is welcoming the change and spokesperson Caroline George told Hfm she hopes it will encourage more people to use town centre shops:
Cllr Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “As highways authority we understand that on-street parking can affect our communities, our high streets, and our local economy.
“Encouraging sensible and safe parking can help keep traffic flowing, create safer communities, and meet the public’s need for on-street parking.
“We reviewed all our single yellow lines in the county to consider how we can allow more or longer on-street parking to help our residents access their high streets and park safely.”
Plans to makes changes to on-street parking arrangements on St Mary’s Road, Roman Way, King’s Head Place, Northampton Road and Fairfield Road won’t go-ahead, after objections were received during a public consultation.
