Letters Of Apology After Hundreds Ordered To Court In Error Over Unpaid Council Tax

Around 700 people across Harborough wrongly ordered to appear in court over unpaid council tax are starting to receive letters of apology.
The District Council sent out the summonses in error, as residents had not sent reminder letters.
It has now cancelled them together with the costs.
The letter offers sincere apologies for any inconvenience and distress the matter has caused.
The leader of the opposition has called for an investigation into how the error occurred.
James Hallam, deputy leader and cabinet lead for finance, said a “technical issue” meant some residents “may not have received the required reminder” before a summons was issued over outstanding bills.
“The decision has therefore been taken to cancel these summonses together with the costs.
“Everyone who received a summons will be written to in order to “confirm that it has been withdrawn.”
