Planning Inspector Gives Go-Ahead For New Homes In Great Bowden

A government planning inspector has given the go-ahead for 33 new homes to be built in Great Bowden.
He has overruled Harborough District Council’s decision to refuse permission for the redevelopment of the Bowden Fencing site, off Leicester Lane.
Developers Barwood Homes challenged the decision after the plan initially got the go-ahead at an on-line meeting of the Planning Committee last year, which was later declared null-and-void, because a technical failure barred the public from viewing the webcast.
The planning application was then refused when the meeting was held again a few weeks later, on the grounds it would result in the loss of employment opportunities and went against the Great Bowden Neighbourhood Plan.
In granting planning permission, the Inspector ruled the new homes will not cause harm to the countryside and the site provides no future employment opportunities, demonstrated by an extensive marketing campaign by owners, which received little interest.
