Council Meeting Switched To Hotel’s Conference Centre

A meeting of Harborough District Council tonight will take place in the conference centre at the Three Swans Hotel, to ensure good social-distancing between those attending.

The decision was made to switch the venue of the Full Council meeting from the Symington Building, because of the large number of councillors and officers due to attend.

The government told Councils last month that in-person meetings had to return, after they were held remotely on-line due to the pandemic.

A Harborough District Council spokesman told Hfm: “The safety of officers, councillors and the public is important and, although the meeting could have been held with social distancing in the Council Chamber, the Cromwell Suite at the Three Swans is larger and allows for a more space between participants.

“This applies to both councillors and members of the public.

“Also, the layout of the entrances to the Cromwell Suite makes it easier to have a one-way system in place.”
