Police Impose Dispersal Order After Fights In Market Harborough

A Dispersal Order had to be put in place in Market Harborough last night after fights broke out between young men.

Police received a number of reports of disorder at the Symington’s Recreation Ground and in the town centre and say members of the public and children who witnessed the incidents were left ‘very distressed.’

The order, which enabled officers to order people to leave areas, or face being arrested, was implemented to reduce the risk of harassment, alarm or distress to the local community and to reduce the risk of further public disorder.

It was in place from 11.30pm until 7am today.

Police say when officers attended the youths left the area and no injuries were reported.

Sergeant Pete Jelbert said: “It was a disappointing that the order was necessary but we took swift action to restore order and protect the public.

“Following the order being issued, our officers continued to carry out proactive patrols throughout the night.

“We’d like to thank the members of the public who contacted us to report their concerns. We urge anyone to get in touch with us and we always act on all reports we receive.”
