Go-Ahead Given For Angel Hotel To Become Base For College

The go-ahead has been given for Market Harborough’s former Angel Hotel to become a permanent base for Brooke House College.

The District Council approved the change of use at a meeting last night.

The historic High Street building, which shut as a hotel last year, will become the main catering base for the college – providing around 1,000 meals a day – and accommodate students, who will use all 37 rooms.

Planning permission was granted, despite concerns from some councillors about the loss of hotel rooms in the town centre.

A Brooke House representative told the meeting they hope to create meeting space for community groups within the building, subject to safeguarding measures being able to be put in place to protect students.

The former hotel was a popular venue for groups to meet.
