A Harborough Mum whose daughter was murdered by her stalking ex-boyfriend is disappointed a ‘stalker register’ is not part of the government’s new Domestic Abuse Act.
Sue Hills from Tur Langton has been campaigning, along with others, for serial perpetrators of domestic abuse and stalking to be included on the Violent and Sex Offender Register.
Her daughter, Alice Ruggles, was killed in 2016, aged 24, when she was living in Northumberland and Trimaan Dhillon, then 26, was jailed for a minimum term of 22 years in 2017 for her murder.
Sue and her husband Clive Ruggles set-up a charity Trust in Alice’s name to raise awareness of stalking following her death.

A government spokesperson said : “The Domestic Abuse Act will provide further protections to the millions of people who experience domestic abuse and strengthen measures to tackle perpetrators.
“For the first time in history there will be a wide-ranging legal definition of domestic abuse which incorporates a range of abuses beyond physical violence, including emotional, coercive or controlling behaviour, and economic abuse.
“The measures include important new protections and support for victims ensuring that abusers will no longer be allowed to directly cross-examine their victims in the family and civil courts, and giving victims better access to special measures in the courtroom to help prevent intimidation – such as protective screens and giving evidence via video link.”
