Market Harborough’s Thorntons Shop Not Affected By Nationwide Closure Announcement

Market Harborough’s Thorntons shop is not affected by the announcement all the chocolate maker’s own stores are closing.
The outlet in St Mary’s Place is a franchise, operated by Cardzone, and will remain open and continue to stock Thorntons products.
Adam Goddard, retail director at Thorntons: “We work closely with around 100 other franchise stores that sell Thorntons product within a broader retail store environment – such as cards stores, gift stores and post offices.
“We proactively communicated with all our franchise partners yesterday morning to reassure them that we remain committed to supporting them and continuing to supply their business with our Thorntons range.
“Our franchise partners, alongside our grocery partners and e-commerce, remain a key part of our strategy for the future of Thorntons. The Thorntons website store locator will continue to reflect the Franchise stores available to customers.”
The decision to shut 61 shops nationwide, run directly by the company, has put over 600 jobs at risk.
The company said it had been badly hit by the pandemic, which forced its stores to shut their doors during the crucial Christmas and Easter holidays.
