Warning After ‘Secret Markings’ Linked To Dog Thefts

It’s thought dog thieves are leaving marks in ultra violet paint to identify potential targets, after several were found on house walls and gates in Hallaton.

A dog was stolen in the village last week and Police say the link with the markings, which show up at night, appears ‘very credible.’

Harborough and Lutterworth Police said: “We are aware of the ongoing concerns with the theft of dogs in the area and rest assured we are doing everything we can to combat the issue.

“Please review your home and garden security to ensure you are not targeted

“Our patrols and efforts will continue and please keep ringing in anything suspicious.”

The dog stolen from a farm in Hallaton last Wednesday night was rescued by officers a few hours later in Nottinghamshire, after a vehicle pursuit and returned to its owner safe and well.

The markings have so far not been reported anywhere else.

Leicestershire Police also say there is no evidence to suggest cable ties are being used as markers by dog thieves, after people raised concerns about them on lampposts and gates.

However, in order to stop people being concerned, officers say people should feel free to remove them.
