Plea After Fire Engine Blocked By Parked Cars

Desborough’s fire crew is pleading with people to think about where they park, after they got stuck for 45 minutes early this morning.

They could not respond to 999 calls until Police arrived and located owners of cars, which were blocking the path of their fire engine on a terraced street in Rothwell at 2am.

The crew had just finished assisting East Midlands Ambulance Service with a medical emergency at a house when they got stuck at the junction of New Street and Cecil Street.

A spokesman for Desborough Fire Station told Hfm: “The incident was concluded quickly, meaning we were available to respond to other emergency calls, however this was prevented by poor parking, which left the crew  stuck for over 45 minutes – that could of cost someone their life.

“We were unable to turn the corner due to parked cars on the junction and had to get assistance from Northamptonshire Police to locate owners of the vehicles.

“Please think about whether a large vehicle like a fire engine can get through when parking your car.”
