Vandals Cause Damage In Welland Park

Vandals have ripped down metal fencing and damaged the table tennis table in Market Harborough’s Welland Park.

They targeted the area outside the café, which has been temporarily fenced off to prevent people using picnic benches during lockdown.

Fencing around the bandstand was also damaged late last night, or early this morning.

Police were called just before 8pm yesterday, after reports a number of youths had gathered in the park, breaching lockdown restrictions, although when officers attended, no one was located.

A spokesperson for Harborough District Council told Hfm: “Sadly, the table tennis area and the metal fencing around the café in Welland Park was damaged in the early evening on Sunday. We have reported this criminal damage to the Police, who are also able to take enforcement action on gatherings of people during national coronavirus restrictions.
