Sunflower field update
Written by HFM on 17th August 2020
It’s been revealed exactly why hundreds of thousands of sunflowers were planted over 12 acres of land near Desborough.
The crop, which has now gone over because of the hot weather, proved a real hit with people visiting to see the amazing sight.
Robert Tarry from Harrington Farms told HFM the main reason for planting them in the waterlogged field in April was to release nutrients and
organic matter back into the soil and provide food for birds and mammals over autumn and winter.
However, in the process, over £350 was raised for Cransley Hospice in Kettering through donations left at the farm in exchange for one of
the sunflowers.
