Council bosses have ‘cancelled’ a parking ticket given to the driver of bus while it was parked at a bus stop in Market Harborough town centre.

Centrebus has successfully appealed the £70 penalty notice, after a warden ticketed the number 44 earlier this month, while the driver was buying food and drink.

Mick Rossiter, Operations Manager for Centrebus Leicester, who branded the issuing of the ticket ‘ridiculous’, told Hfm: “I’m pleased the ticket has been cancelled – common sense has prevailed.

“Many of our services have ‘lay-over’ time which requires buses to remain at stops for a short period of time, but the Council have made it clear we can no longer use this stop for this.

“I’m talking to the contracts department as it will cause our drivers difficulty.”

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “We advised Centrebus of the appeal process. We’ve carefully considered their representations and, on this occasion, we won’t be pursuing the case.”
