Tributes Paid After Popular Coffee Shop Owner Dies

Tributes are being paid to a Market Harborough business owner who has died, aged 51.

Raj Aggarwal ran the Insomnia Coffee Shop in the Symington Building on Adam and Eve Street and the Spar shop in Wigston.

Raj, from Great Glen, has been described as a true gentleman, retail legend and larger than life character.

A statement posted on the Insomina Facebook page reads:

“It is with great sadness to have to announce that Raj, the owner of our coffee shop, passed away yesterday morning.

“This is difficult news for his family, friends and the Insomnia family to who we send out loving thoughts and prayers at this devastating time.

“He will be well and truly missed by everyone who knew him. May he rest peacefully.”

Raj was a member of a number of organisations that championed independent retail.

President of the National Federation of Independent Retailers, Stuart Reddish said: “I am shocked and saddened. Raj was such a lively character and a legend when it came to retailing.
“In recent months he had expressed an interest in becoming more heavily involved in federation activities and had so much to offer.

“His death is a huge loss to the industry. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Raj’s family at this time.”
