Motorcyclist Blinded After Egg Thrown From Car

Written by on 13th January 2020

Police want to hear from anyone who saw eggs being thrown from a car in Market Harborough, after a motorcyclist was left blinded in one eye when one hit him.

The rider, aged 31, who had his visor up at the time, was injured as he rode along Newton Lane into Wigston at around 11.15pm on Friday – he was taken to hospital, but surgeons could not save the eye.

Shortly after the incident Police received reports of eggs being thrown from a car on Welland Park Road in Market Harborough and believe it may have been the same vehicle,  a red Seat Leon 69-plate car, which has since been recovered.

A 17-year-old male arrested on Saturday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Jack Thomas, who is investigating the incident, said: “I want to hear from anyone who saw a car being driven in a manner that caused them concern in the area of Wigson and Market Harborough late on Friday night, and anyone who might have seen eggs being thrown.

“I appreciate it’s not something you would necessarily think to report to the police, but this incident where this victim has lost his sight shows that it can be very serious.

“We need to find the car and the people responsible as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting crime number 20*19279.
