Harborough Council could develop a new housing estate near Gartree Prison.
It is interested in buying land set to be sold-off by the Ministry of Justice and then building and selling homes on the site, which could accommodate around 150 houses.

An area of the land that would be re-developed
The Council would invest £16m in the project if it went ahead, with the detail revealed in the authority’s budget projections for the next three years.
Plans for a housing development on the land off Gallowfield Road were first revealed in 2018.
