Bid To Catch Handbag Thieves

Police are to mount special operations aimed at catching those responsible for a series of handbag thefts in Market Harborough.

Five women have had their bags stolen in the past few weeks from supermarket car parks and in a shop.

Officers will team up with the British Transport Police and colleagues from Northamptonshire as part of the action, as it’s believed the thieves could be travelling by train to commit the crimes, or from other near-by towns.

They will also target shoplifters taking advantage of busy shops in the run-up to Christmas.

Some officers will work in plain clothes in and around the town centre and at the railway station, and will also have assistance from CCTV operators who notice suspicious activity.
