Illston on the Hill Fireworks Cancelled

Written by on 4th November 2019

Organisers of tomorrow’s major fireworks and bonfire night in Illston on the Hill have been forced to cancel it because ground conditions are not safe.

The event, in aid of Leicestershire’s Wishes 4 Kids charity, attracts 10,000 people and was also due to feature an appearance by Leicester City players James Maddison and Ben Chilwell, who were going to light the bonfire.

Announcing the cancellation, organisers said: “It is with great disappointment that we must inform you that the organising committee have had to cancel this year’s Wishes 4 Kids Charity Fireworks and Bonfire Night.

“Unfortunately, the weather has been very wet in the last few weeks, and continues to be.

“This has meant that the ground conditions are not safe, and we would not be able to put on the event to the highest standards you have come to expect.

“The bonfire is a major fundraiser for Wishes 4 Kids, last year raising £17,500.

“If you would like to support the charity and donate to help cover the costs to help to raise vital funds to ensure that as many wishes as possible can be granted throughout 2020 then please follow the link to donate.

Displays in Market Harborough and Desborough were also cancelled over the weekend because of the weather.
