Poppy Appeal To Launch
Written by HFM News on 25th October 2019
People are being asked to generously to this year’s Poppy Appeal, which will launch in Market Harborough tomorrow:
Last year the local appeal raised £33,000 in and it’s hoped the same amount will be donated this time in the run-up to Remembrance Day.
An appeal stall will be in the Market Hall and there will also be one inside the Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Aldi supermarkets, as well as street collections.
There will also be an opportunity for shoppers to contribute their own messages of support at Harborough Market from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 2 November, with people also invited to craft a poppy and write a note of remembrance, both of which will be used to create a Community Wreath which will be laid as part of the annual Remembrance Day Service on 10 November.
Stewart Harrison, Chairman of the Market Harborough branch of the Royal British Legion said, “Each year we are humbled and grateful for the generosity shown by people in the Harborough District. All support is welcome, however big or small, as the Poppy Appeal is vital to ensure that Armed Forces personnel, their families and dependents of the fallen and wounded are looked after.”
The Legion is also appealing for people to volunteer to collect on the streets – if you can help, visit the Poppy Stall at the Market.
