A big clean-up was needed at the Little Bowden Recreation Ground after over 50 youths held a ‘party’ there on Saturday night.

Police received a number of calls about noise and general disturbance, with people reporting under-age drinking and drugs being used, and officers were sent to park.

Bins had been ripped out of the ground and glass from smashed bottles caused a hazard for dog walkers and others using the area yesterday morning.

They were among a large amount of litter left strewn across the area.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “Police received a number of calls relating to up to 50 youths acting anti-socially in Little Bowden Park on Saturday evening.

“Officers attended the park but on their arrival, the group made off.

“Local officers are not aware of any previous ASB issues relating to this area of a similar nature involving the same number of youths and will be liaising with the local council to discuss the reports from the weekend.”

Harborough Council contractors were called in to deal with the mess and Cllr Peter James, who represents Little Bowden said: “Thankfully the council got mess cleaned up but we need the police and the council to coordinate their actions to try and make sure that this doesn’t happen again.

“This is a much loved well used recreation ground, many children use the facility and we have to ensure that this sort of anti-social behaviour is quickly stopped.”
