Hope For Future Of Town Centre Post Office
Written by HFM News on 17th October 2019
There is hope the future of a Post Office in Market Harborough town centre can be secured.
The company has revealed it is talking to a party interested in operating the service, which has been under threat since earlier this year, when it was announced the current facility inside the GT News Shop was to close.
Talks are now on-going in a bid transfer the service to someone new, although it’s not known if that would be at the premises in St Mary’s Place, or somewhere new.
The branch was originally due to close in April, but several extensions to the service have been granted – the most recent until the end of December.
The Post Office has now granted a further one, meaning it will remain open in its current location, together with the shop, until the start of April 2020.
A Post Office spokesperson, said: “We are pleased to have secured a further extension of services at Market Harborough Post Office until the start of April. The branch was originally due to close in April 2019.
“We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to maintain a Post Office in this area of Market Harborough.
“We have an interested party to operate Market Harborough Post Office. Talks are at an early stage.”
