A man who failed to pay a £300 fly-tipping fine has now been ordered to pay over £1,400 after being taken to Court by Harborough Council.

Vitalijis Grigorjevs was handed the fixed penalty earlier this year after rubbish from his house in Corby, that even included a crutch, was dumped in Welham Lane, Great Bowden.

The 31-year old of Occupation Road, had paid someone to take it away, but failed to check it would be disposed of legally.

He pleaded guilty at Leicester Magistrates yesterday and was fined £400, ordered to pay the Council’s costs of £966 and a £40 victim surcharge.

Cllr Jonathan Bateman, Harborough Council’s Cabinet member for regulatory services, said: “This is another success for our Tip Off campaign which is proactively cracking down on fly tipping across the district.

“This case sends out a strong message that we take these offences very seriously and will pursue them through the courts if necessary to achieve a successful outcome.”
